Frequently Asked Questions

The questions listed on this page are the most frequently asked by our customers about the elective ultrasound sessions we offer at My Angel Vision in Springfield, Illinois. If you have any questions that were not answered by the information we have provided on this web site, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us today.

What Is an Elective Prenatal Ultrasound?

Elective 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound provide realistic surface images of your unborn baby. Please bear in mind that these procedures are not necessarily used as examinations to assess if your child will develop abnormalities, if any.

We highly suggest that you go through a routine ultrasound examination with your doctor to evaluate the gestational age of the fetus, detect potential fetal anomalies, and identify the basic components of fetal anatomy.

Can This Take the Place of a Typical Ultrasound at My Doctor’s Office?

No. Those who book elective prenatal ultrasounds with us must already be receiving treatment from a certified healthcare provider for prenatal care. You still need to rely on a medical, diagnostic ultrasound to confirm your due date, screen for fetal anomalies, and look for other related issues.

Our elective prenatal ultrasound sessions do include a limited diagnostic scan to confirm your child’s heartbeat. It can also determine the number of babies in your pregnancy, the position of your baby, and the location of his/her placenta. We reiterate that our ultrasounds should never take the place of your doctor’s complete diagnostic ultrasounds.

How Is This Different Than the Ultrasound Performed or Ordered by My Doctor?

Most expectant mothers have a diagnostic ultrasound during their 18th to 20th week. In some cases, your doctor/sonographer may even take some pictures and video of your baby in 3D/4D. However, this is very different from the elective ultrasounds we offer.
Medical ultrasounds tend to be very serious in nature, which focus on detecting any abnormalities and performing crucial diagnostic measurements. Our ultrasounds are performed in a more relaxed atmosphere that provides a highly interactive bonding experience for you and your loved ones. Also, we capture the best images of your baby when she/he is bigger and more developed.

Are Your Ultrasounds Safe? What Are the Risks Involved?

Extensive research conducted over the past 30 years has consistently proven that ultrasounds do not cause any type of harm to mothers and their babies. In fact, routine pregnancy scans are now normal throughout the United States.

3D 4D ultrasound uses the exact type and intensity of ultrasound used in conventional 2D scanning. Both 3D ultrasounds and 4D ultrasounds utilize sound waves, similar to those used in radar technology, to look inside your body. A probe is placed on the body, which then emits sound waves, listens for a return echo, and generates an image. 4D ultrasounds are similar to conventional scans in terms of exposure. Learn more about ultrasound and if it's safe.

Can You Determine the Gender of My Baby?

Absolutely! However, there are factors beyond your technicians control such as body tissue content, developmental stage, and fetal position which can all affect the scan to determine gender. Should these issues occur, you are always welcome to come back and get scanned again at no extra charge. See our Gender Redo Policy.

How Far Along in My Pregnancy Should I Be Before I Get a Gender Reveal Ultrasound?

Anytime after 14 weeks Gender Determination (gender reveal) - Our trained staff accurately reveals the gender of your baby at 14 weeks of pregnancy onward. See our gender accuracy guarantee. Gender Guarantee

How Far Along in My Pregnancy Should I Be Before I Get a 3D 4D or 5D Ultrasound?

Anytime after 14 weeks - We can capture your baby in 3D 4D or 5D and HD Live at any point of your pregnancy for viewing. For the best pictures please keep in mind the growth of your baby for your desired results. It isn't until week 18 that baby begins to put on weight and starts to look more like mom and dad. By week 20  there is detailed facial features. Around week 26 you may see amazing activities such as him playing with his feet or her giving a big yawn after a quick nap. Often times you can even catch your baby looking right back at you! During week 30 your baby will rapidly gain weight attributing to those chubby cheeks. By week 33 your baby will be very cramped for space making pictures difficult for some. To capture your baby's growth and development we recommend three sessions with the first session around week 20the second session around week 26 and the final session around week 30.

How Long Does Your 3D 4D Ultrasound Take?

The amount of time is determined by which ultrasound experience you choose. Each session is padded with extra time just in case baby wants to be stubborn. Our sessions are designed for a relaxing experience so that you will never feel rushed. See are sessions and pricing page for more details. Sessions and Pricing

We can also provide a live video feed of your session on our 60-inch screen located in our waiting area, which seats approximately 15-20 people. In addition, we have an open floor space to accommodate even more guests!

How Sure Are You That You Can Always Get Precise Pictures of My Baby?

If your baby is constantly looking down (i.e., towards your spine), we may find it difficult to capture your baby's face. Should this happen, we will offer a repeat scan. See our Picture Redo Policy.

We can not promise that the images we capture will be similar to others that we have taken, those taken elsewhere or that we will meet everyone’s exact expectations. After all, each baby scans differently depending on his/her gestational age, position in the womb, amount of amniotic fluid, how clear the amniotic fluid is, how active the baby is at the time and the mother’s tissue content. However, we promise to do everything we can to always get the best images of your baby.

Is There Anything I Can Do to Help You Get the Best Pictures of My Baby?

Pay close attention to the times when your baby is most active during the day then schedule your appointment around those times. Also, determine whether or not eating and drinking affect your baby’s energy levels. Sometimes after eating a big meal prior to your appointment will cause a sluggish baby. Your baby may be more active after you drink cold and/or fruity beverages, so we recommend you taking a fruit smoothie before going to your appointment.

Your hydration level is a huge factor for producing the best pictures. Being well hydrated produces clear amniotic fluid which is good for pictures. Stay well hydrated during the entire week leading up to your appointment because this will impact the amount of amniotic fluid seen in your pictures. Lastly, if you know that your baby is in a breech position, you may want to postpone your appointment for a week or two. This gives ample time for your baby to get into the ideal orientation for us to capture the best images.

What Equipment Do You Use to Perform Your 3D 4D Ultrasounds?

We use GE Voluson Pro Imagers for all of our ultrasound examinations. These popular and state-of-the-art machines are the best devices available in the market today for 2D ultrasound, 3D ultrasound, 4D ultrasound and 5D ultrasounds.

We serve Springfield, Illinois, as well as areas from Chicago, IL to St. Louis, MO and everywhere else in between! We make sure you will always feel at home in our facility!

Is Your Type of Ultrasound Covered by My Medical Insurance?
